Residents of Sarajevo Canton now have a direct way to shape their city’s future through participacija.ba, the official platform developed for the Urban Transformation Project Sarajevo (UTPS). Launched in January 2025, the portal is designed to strengthen public participation in urban planning across the canton, ensuring that community voices are heard in shaping tomorrow’s neighborhoods.

The UTPS is a four-year initiative funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and implemented by HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation and NIRAS, in partnership with CCI and the Institute for Youth Development KULT. Its mission is to modernize urban planning systems and promote sustainable socio-economic growth that is resilient to climate change.

At the heart of this mission, participacija.ba makes public participation more accessible, effective, and inclusive. The platform provides ready-to-use tools and templates for citizen engagement, improves communication between institutions and the public, and ensures that input into spatial planning and decision-making is both meaningful and impactful. With an intuitive design and interactive features, it welcomes participation from all, regardless of technical experience.

App Impact developed the platform using our Webricks Online Presence Platform, customizing it with modules tailored to the UTPS project’s unique requirements.  We are proud to have contributed to a platform that fosters transparency, civic engagement, and sustainable urban development and we wish the UTPS team continued success.
